A judge is expected to make a decision today as to whether the illegal immigrant charged in the shooting death of a woman on San Francisco’s waterfront earlier this summer should stand trial. During yesterday’s session in the preliminary hearing for Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez, the judge watched a video taken by a tourist moments after Kate Steinle was shot. Lopez-Sanchez is accused of firing the shot that hit and killed the 32-year-old who went to Cal Poly, as she walked along a pier with her father on July 1st. The incident has focused attention on San Francisco’s “sanctuary city” policy and heated up the debate over illegal immigration. Authorities say Lopez-Sanchez was deported from the United States five times and has a criminal history with seven prior felonies.
